One day when I was a TaskRabbit in New York City, I sat down on a bench: I’d either just completed the organizing job, or I was early waiting for it to begin.
When a little dark chocolate boy appeared before me, being jerked hurriedly along by his mother. He had a chubby round face that faced me, but was raised toward the sky, blinking rapidly, and so it seemed on purpose, from the sun with a great big smile.
It was a happiness that I knew with all my heart to see but not in my own life at the time; and at that moment I became the happiest I’d ever been because I knew that the boy and the sun was mine.
